The Challenge: Write a story on the topic: PLANET

Students had one week to write a story of up to 300 words (Junior and Intermediate - Years 0-8) or 500 words (Senior Years 9-13) on the topic.
Prizes will be awarded to:

The best three entries in each stream (junior, intermediate, senior).

The judges will be looking for: Relevance to topic, originality, language skills, characterisation and story construction.

What Next?

  • Judging of the stories commences shortly and winners will be announced at the Planet2010 show in Auckland on 13th March. 
  • Come along to Planet 2010 at the Skycity Convention Centre on Saturday 13th March. Entry is free, there’s interactive exhibitions, music, cool technology and more!
  • Read the stories submitted – Years 0-6, Years 7-8 and Years 9-13.

Story Challenge Terms and Conditions

  1. Enter as many times as you like.
  2. Stories should be no more than 300 words (Year 0-8) or 500 words (Year 9-13). Any stories that are longer than this may be disqualified.
  3. No entries will be accepted after the closing date.
  4. The entrants must be:
    1. Resident in New Zealand or New Zealand citizens
    2. New Zealand School students and under 20 years of age.
  5. Any student found to be participating in an incorrect age category will be disqualified.
  6. The entrant must be the original author of the work entered as described in the Copyright Act 1994.
  7. The completed registration form confirms the entrant’s consent to these Conditions.
  8. Entries submitted without a signed Parental or Guardian consent form will not be accepted.
  9. The TIG will have the right to print the name and story of any entrant in publicity in respect of the competition and all matter incidental thereto.
  10. The TIG will have the right to interpret these conditions and to determine all issues arising out of this contest. Any such interpretations and determinations shall be final.
  11. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
